Comprehensive eye exams go beyond providing a prescription for your glasses. Dr. Lau will ensure that your eyes are healthy by examining the anterior and posterior portion of your eyes with state of the art equipment. In depth eye examinations will also allow Dr. Lau to detect diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure and many other ocular diseases.
At the clinic Dr. Lau has access to the latest techology to ensure that all intricate details are well documented for all patients. Such devices include retinal digital photography and optical coherence tomography (OCT). To learn more about these options please click here.
Dr. Lau provides emergency services for eye injuries and infections. As of Spring 2011, optometrists in Ontario are able to prescribe certain medications pertinent to certain eye diseases. Please contact the clinic to speak with one of our helpful staff members in order to schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
Patients must have a contact lens exam before Dr. Lau can dispense a prescription for contact lenses. During the examination Dr. Lau will provide a plan that will ensure that you are properly fit with correct contact lenses. After a short trial period with new contact lenses Dr. Lau will re-check the fit, health, and vision of your eyes before finalizing your contact lens prescription. Contact lens wearers are recommended to have annual examinations to monitor eye health and to update contact lens prescriptions. At the clinic we offer a vast selection of contact lenses: soft disposable, toric, multi-focal and colored lenses.
For patients who are interested in corrective laser eye surgery Dr. Lau provides co-managing care pre and post operation. During your comprehensive eye exam, Dr. Lau will provide you with important information to determine whether you are eligible for corrective eye surgery.
Born and raised in Toronto, Dr. Jamie Lau relocated to Ottawa in 2011. She completed her Pre-Optometry undergraduate degree at the University of Waterloo and received her doctorate at the New England College of Optometry in Boston. Dr. Lau is board certified in both the United States and Canada and is licensed to prescribe and use topical therapeutic pharmaceutical agents for treatment of ocular diseases. Currently she is a member of the Canadian Association of Optometrists, Ontario Association of Optometrists and the Ottawa Society of Optometrists.
Dr. Lau has wide spread experience with different patient populations as she interned at the Veteran Affairs Hospitals in Manchester and Boston and also trained at the nationally renowned Vision Institute of Canada in Toronto.
Since 2011, she has been providing comprehensive eye care to patients of all ages from infants to seniors in Ottawa. As of January 2016 Dr. Lau joined a new practice at Merivale Vision Care. She is happy to continue her care with all her previous patients as well as accept new patients!
